Sri Lanka “Finding Serendipity on the Island of Serendib”  VegVoyages Inaugural Trip – 2019 Ayubowan and Vanakkam Ayubowan is the greeting used in Sinhalese, the language spoken by the majority of Sri Lankans. Vanakkam is the greeting used in Tamil, the language spoken by Sri Lankan Tamils who typically live in the Northeastern part of the country. When you greet people in Sri Lanka, you don’t say hello in the way that we do in the West. With your hands placed near your heart in prayer position you say Ayubowan or Vanakkam. How do you pronounce them? Here’s my best “sound-out”.  Ayyubowan - when you say it fast it’s almost like I-boo-juan; where juan is pronounced like a man’s name, and that’s about as close as I can get on paper. So just use I-boo-juan and say it fast so maybe, just maybe, no one notices you mangled it a bit. Time to make over your kitchen...Uh-Oh, here come's the plant based food police!  Is it really hard to make your food plant strong and junk free? Nope! It really isn't and it also isn't hard to go plant based. I know that people think it would be SO hard, but in today's era, there are TONS of great whole food plant based recipes that you really won't miss the animal products, fat and sugar.  So why do I think everyone should be eating a low fat, plant based diet?  A low-fat whole foods plant based diet can help prevent and reverse many diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, auto-immune disease, etc. It keeps your body healthy and you feel better. You'll lose weight. Your taste buds will change, I guarantee it. But you do have to make a commitment to do it. Don't you owe it to yourself and those who love you to be the healthiest you can be? Drugs vs. Food - It's Up to You

  I can't comprehend why people would rather pop a pill for an ailment than to make a change in their eating habits. I guess it's easier to be put on medication than to make a lifestyle change and eat foods that can heal your body.  I'm not saying all meds are bad and I'm not saying some are unnecessary, but with all the research, documentation, studies, etc out there why don't people try a plants based diet to help with their conditions. We know from numerous studies that eating a plant based diet can help many people get off meds for diabetes, heart disease, etc. So why don't people give it a try? Is it because doctors don't think to recommend diet as a medication? Is it because they are too entrenched in the pharma business?
